The final conference of the CREATE project (Climate RESponses for the AdriaTic rEgion), co-financed from the Interreg Italy-Croatia program, was held on June 14, 2023, in Venice. The conference presented concrete examples and success stories of how public administrations, companies, civil society and the scientific community successfully cooperated to improve communities' resilience to climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The conference presented an overview of the best initiatives that built concrete and functional solutions for adaptation to climate change and minimized the impacts of floods, geo-hydrological instability and sea level rise. Also, the key result of the project was presented - CREATE Toolbox of Knowledge, i.e. instruments and guidelines on adaptation and resilience of communities to climate change developed based on analysis of knowledge gathered from recent INTERREG projects and experiences with local climate adaptation projects in the Adriatic region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The A3-Adriatic Adaptation Award ceremony for good practice was also held during the conference. \nThe award went to the City of Pula for designing and implementing rain gardens, i.e., natural infiltration systems that protect against flooding by using natural structures such as gardens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Numerous projects in three categories competed for the A3 award. Among the nominees was the Emilia Romagna region and its implementation of the Integrated Management Strategy for Coastal Protection and Adaptation to Climate Change (GIDAC). Other projects that CREATE highlighted were the Ethnological Park \"Anton Pla\u0161imuha\" in the Municipality of Lovran in Istria and the city of Rimini and its Marine Park. On the Croatian side, eight projects competed for the A3 award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CREATE<\/a> is a project financed under the Italy-Croatia cross-border program within Axis 2 - Security and resilience, coordinated by CMCC, the Foundation of the Euro-Mediterranean Center for Climate Change, with the participation of Italian and Croatian partners such as the Energy Institute Hrvoje Po\u017ear, IUAV - University Institute for architecture in Venice, CNR, Abruzzo Region, PAP-RAC, IOF \u2013 Croatian National Institute for Oceanography and Fisheries, Split-Dalmatia County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CREATE project, worth almost 600 thousand euros, jointly analyzes and synthesizes the results obtained in all relevant axis projects and provides systematic access to this knowledge to improve the transferability of project results with conferences, workshops and webinars with partners and stakeholders and initiatives to show good examples of implementation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
