Second National SPOWIND Workshop successfully held in Croatia and Montenegro

The second national workshop within the project Interreg Euro-MED SPOWIND, dedicated to advancing the development of offshore wind energy in the region, was successfully held on October 15 in Croatia and Montenegro, with additional participants joining online. The event was jointly organized by the Energy Institute Hrvoje Požar (EIHP) and ENVPRO.

Participants were introduced to the Interreg Euro-MED SPOWIND WebGIS platform – an innovative tool for mapping and assessing offshore wind power potential.

Sapienza University of Rome presented advanced energy transmission solutions, while the Polytechnic University of Turin demonstrated the WebGIS tool and shared country-specific case studies.

The workshop also included an overview of the legal and regulatory framework for offshore wind development in Croatia and Montenegro.

The event concluded with an engaging panel discussion on offshore wind farm development, followed by an Open day session featuring interactive demonstrations of the WebGIS tool.

The takeaway?
Survey results among participants clearly showed that improved cross-sectoral cooperation is essential for the development of offshore wind, at all levels, between the energy, transport, tourism, fisheries, environmental protection, and public administration sectors. In other words, only through dialogue, knowledge exchange, and joint efforts can we unlock the full potential of offshore wind in the region.
