DHC SwEEtch

DHC SwEEtch is a pioneering project dedicated to transforming urban district heating and cooling (DHC) systems across Europe.

By providing essential technical support, the project enables DHC operators to design effective decarbonization roadmaps through 2050 and develop actionable investment plans for the coming decade.

Our Focus Areas:

  • Mapping: Identifying demand and local renewable or waste heat resources to align with urban needs.
  • Modeling: Leveraging advanced simulations to design efficient, sustainable systems.
  • Assessment: Evaluating current infrastructures to pinpoint opportunities for enhancement.
  • Investment planning: Creating detailed strategies for securing financing and supporting modernization efforts.

With initial case studies in Italy, Poland, and Croatia, DHC SwEEtch is helping DHC networks integrate renewable energy and waste heat sources such as biomass, solar thermal, geothermal, and storage solutions. By 2025, five more networks will be selected through an open call, enabling a total of ten DHC networks to benefit from the project’s guidance. DHC SwEEtch is also dedicated to community-building through outreach, training, and collaboration initiatives, empowering stakeholders with the skills and connections to foster sustainable energy solutions.
