REHEATEAST
Building local partnerships for reducing the fossil energy demand of district heating systems in the Eastern Danube Region
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The overall objective of REHEATEAST is to find and promote catalytic measures and widely adaptable solutions to the financial and environmental sustainability challenges of district heating and cooling (DHC) systems in the Eastern Danube Region, thus reducing the fossil energy demand while increasing the utilization of renewable energy sources and waste heat. Through partnership building, knowledge- sharing, and collaboration among stakeholders, REHEATEAST focuses on upgrading both supply and demand sides of DHC systems to enhance efficiency and decrease dependency on fossil fuels. The project fosters international, cross-sectoral, public- private cooperation to develop and implement applicable solutions, including process improvements and adaptation of best practices. Furthermore, REHEATEAST will work on formulating policy recommendations tailored to addressing common challenges in DHC systems across the eastern Danube region. These recommendations are designed to provide strategic guidance and support to policymakers and stakeholders in implementing sustainable solutions and advancing broader project objectives.
