It is essential to continuously work on the combination of all renewable energy sources for which there is a proven natural potential because the solution lies in the energy mix and not exclusively in one energy source, said Matija Vajdić, head of the Department for Renewable Energy Sources, Climate and Environmental Protection in EIHP, for the business weekly Lider.
There is certainly room for progress in the energy transition. However, as Vajdić pointed out, if we want to speed up the energy transition significantly, then decisions must be made by leaders: "For example, that all investments related to the gas sector should be transferred to the accelerated development of electric power infrastructure or that most investments in road infrastructure should be transferred to the development of electrified railway infrastructure, to fully implement the bioeconomy strategy in all branches of the economy, to implement all this with minimal impact on the environment, etc. Investors will, above all, continue to develop projects of renewable energy sources due to the high market prices of energy and relatively low capital investment in some forms of energy (e.g. solar ). Citizens and industry will soon do the same due to the inevitable increase in retail energy prices. There should certainly be a combination of leadership decisions at the level of state resource management, but market preconditions should also be created so that private and institutional investors can find their place there," emphasized Vajdić.
