Fortenova Group and Energy Institute Hrvoje Požar (EIHP) signed a cooperation agreement on the preparation of a study to calculate the carbon footprint of Fortenova Group d.d. and its operating companies. The contract was signed by Fabris Peruško, member of the Board of Directors and CEO of Fortenova Group, and Dražen Jakšić, director of EIHP.
The project will take place in several phases, and the study prepared by EIHP for the Forten group will include the calculation of greenhouse gas emissions from Ranges 1, 2, and 3. It is about calculations of direct emissions that occur at the company's location and calculations of indirect emissions that appear outside the locations companies and are related to the procurement and consumption of electricity, heating, and cooling energy. The resulting calculations will be the basis for defining short-term and long-term goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and creating a Strategy and Action Plan for reducing the carbon footprint in the Fortenova group.
"Achieving carbon neutrality is a long-term goal of our sustainability strategy. As the largest private employer in Southeast Europe, we are aware of our impact on the communities in which we operate and, thus, our responsibility towards assuming a leading role in contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. This project is crucial not only for calculating the current level of our carbon footprint and setting specific goals for its reduction, but also for setting high standards of sustainability in all our companies, regardless of the market in question and national regulations on climate change issues", commented Fabris Peruško during the signing of the contract with EIHP.
"EIHP also achieves its mission in the green energy transition by providing expert support in transforming business towards a low-carbon one. We are looking forward to the fact that the Forten group has recognized us as a reliable partner in realizing its sustainability strategy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions," said Dražen Jakšić.
The project will take place in several phases - from the calculation of emissions and the presentation of results in accordance with the GHG protocol and the ISO 14064-1 norm to the preparation of a carbon footprint management strategy, an action plan for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and an analysis of the conditions for achieving carbon neutrality.
