"Possibilities of defending the historic core of the town of Cres against storm surges and high tides"

Island Development Agency OTRA, with the support of the City of Cres, the County Port Authority of Cres, and EIHP, is organizing the Scientific and Expert Meeting "Possibility of defending the historic core of the city of Cres against storm surges and high tides," which will be held on Thursday, November 30, in Moise Palace, in Cres.

The meeting aims to look through a multidisciplinary approach to the problem of flooding in the Cres town center, especially in the context of the predicted increase in sea level due to climate change and the possibility of physical prevention of flooding in the future. Namely, the flooding of a part of the historical core of the city of Cres is a relatively frequent phenomenon that occurs due to the rise of the mean sea level by more than 50 cm compared to the level of the 15th century, when most of the port and the city core were built. Scenarios of future climate development and rising sea levels predict more frequent and intense occurrences of such events, and it is necessary to adapt the port infrastructure as soon as possible and find innovative ways to defend against floods.
