The National Energy Agencies of ten member states have embarked on a groundbreaking initiative to fortify the implementation of the newly recast Energy Efficiency Directive (EED). The LEAPto11 project is a collaborative effort among various National Agencies aiming to comprehensively enhance the quality framework for energy audits.
With a focus on bolstering the sustainability of Energy Audits and Energy Management Systems (EnMs), LEAPto11 represents a significant shift towards achieving energy efficiency improvements. The project will evaluate, upgrade, and optimise current national programmes, to ensure a more effective utilisation of resources.
On the importance of optimising energy savings in the business sector Enrico Biele, the Project coordinator and Programme manager at ENEA, remarked: “To optimise energy savings in the business sector, the new EED Article 11 expands the scope of energy audit and energy management system obligations for large energy consumers, paying close attention also to programmes for SMEs.”
In addition to enhancing the efficacy of national programmes, LEAPto11 will explore other facets of the new EED related to energy savings in the business sector. By fostering synergies among EU energy audits, EnMS, and Energy Efficiency Obligation Schemes, the project seeks to maximise the impact of energy-related initiatives across the business sector.
The Slovak Innovation and Energy Agency report that they are looking forward to “information exchange with project partners on best practices related to implementing EU legislation on Energy Audits.” As a part of our work on the project, the partners will tackle the issues of the monitoring, use of data on energy audits for purposes of national policies and strategies in the field of energy efficiency.
