On October 31 and November 2, in cooperation with partners on the project "Creation of maps of the vulnerability of areas for the placement of solar and wind power plants in the territory of the Republic of Croatia", The Nature Conservancy and the Institute for the Protection of the Environment and Nature, we held meetings at the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development to provide information to the experts involved in the project about the methods of modelling the distribution and sensitivity of species.
During the meetings, we got acquainted with the current requirements from the RED III Directive and analyzed the models that can be applied in creating convenience maps and a very productive discussion with stakeholders developed.
The results of this project, which has national importance, will serve as a technical basis for the identification and selection of potential areas for the acceleration of renewable energy sources for solar power plants and wind power plants in the Republic of Croatia. In this way, we want to ensure compliance with the recently adopted RED III Directive, the European Green Plan, REPowerEU and other European legislation related to this area. At the same time, striving to contribute to realising the EU's climate goal, we want to reduce potential conflicts between energy production and other forms of use of space, natural values and biological diversity.
