The energy transition in Croatia needs to be accelerated, but the personnel potential and the ability of the administration to facilitate the faster implementation of necessary projects should be taken into account, was heard at the panel 'Leaders of a sustainable future' in which also participated director of EIHP Dražen Jakšić. The panel was held as part of the 'Energy Future of Croatia' conference, organized by the business weekly Lider, on May 28, 2024.
The attention of those gathered was particularly captured by the issue of the possibility of implementing ambitious plans to increase electricity production from renewable energy sources. Namely, the updated National Energy and Climate Plan, which will soon be submitted to the European Commission for approval, predicts that the capacities of solar power plants will quadruple to 4,000 MW, and wind power plants would have 2,000 MW, twice as much as now. If we add to that 300 MW from geothermal power plants, it is clear that it will be extremely ambitious, pointed out the director of EIHP. "Achieving this will not be easy", emphasized Jakšić, adding that by 2030, they should increase energy production by five TWh per year.
