The MISSION CE CLIMATE project started with the implementation

Like the rest of the world, Central Europe faces challenges related to climate change, such as changed precipitation patterns (floods, water shortages), heat waves (urban heat, food production), etc., recognized by the program SO 2.2. This is precisely where the main challenge of the MISSION CE CLIMATE project lies - overcoming silo/sectoral response to climate change practiced today by communities of Central Europe by introducing a coordinated, cross-sectoral approach that puts local/regional authorities in the center spot of management of climate resilience process.

The project, in which EIHP is one of the project partners, began with the implementation on April 1, 2023. The overall objective is to support the communities of Central Europe to become climate-resilient and to enable them to react with a coordinated response to the processes caused by climate change. The project will build permanent systems (community climate missions) and community capacities (integrated strategies, local action plans, solutions), acting beyond a sectoral approach by introducing cross-sectoral governance with strong citizen participation.

The main results of the project:

  • Climate resilience systems set-up in partner communities (Community Climate Missions), supported by joint climate resilience 2030 strategy (defining measures, business models, financing mechanisms) and locally adapted action plans (project portfolio approach)
  • Increased capacities of communities to adapt to climate change by new knowledge and tools
  • Activated citizens to contribute to climate resilience of communities with increased awareness and capacities
  • Solutions developed through pilots answering community adaptation challenges in coordinated, cross-sectoral approach using nature - based solutions and digital tools

Co-creation of solutions by number of different communities and technical partners is critical to provide usable and transferable solutions.
