After just over three years of implementation, the Response project has finished

After just over three years of implementation, the Response project has finished. The aim was to empower local policymakers to enable climate-smart approaches to governance and promote sustainable living in the island and coastal areas of the Adriatic. The idea was to develop tools that will enable the local level to identify dangerous events caused by climate change, detect the most vulnerable sectors, prepare a list and plan of measures to reduce the impact and adaptation to climate change and monitor the implementation of defined plans.

Throughout the project, the EIHP team (project leader Ilja Drmač and team members Željka Fištrek, Veljko Vorkapić, Lovorko Marić, Mara Krešić, Tomislav Čop, Šimun Lončarević and Dražen Tumara) team developed a methodology for conducting risk and vulnerability analysis for eight sectors, modeled energy consumption and CO2 emissions2 through the LEAP, and set a timetable for implementing the proposed measures. They also developed a form for annual monitoring of implementation results.

On the Croatian side of the Adriatic, three Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAP) have been developed for the cities of Šibenik, Cres, and Ploče. Apart from Croatia, the approach and the developed Methodology were tested through the preparation of three SECAP documents on the Italian side, for the cities of Montemarciano, Brindisi and Lignano Sabbiadoro.
